Why can't I find my vehicle?

Modified on Tue, 19 Nov, 2024 at 5:16 PM

If you are unable to find your vehicle using Motorscan, the issue may be due to one of the following reasons:

  1. Incorrect Registration Number:
Double-check that you have entered the correct registration number. Even small errors, such as mistaking a "0" (zero) for an "O" (letter O), can prevent the vehicle from being found.

  2. Vehicle Not Registered in the UK:
Motorscan's database only supports UK-registered vehicles. If the vehicle is registered outside the UK, it will not appear in the system.

  3. Recent Registration or Change of Details:
If the vehicle has been newly registered or recently had its registration details changed, the updated information might not yet be reflected in the database. Updates can take a few days to process.

  4. Private or Unusual Registration:
Vehicles with private number plates or temporary registrations may not always appear correctly, especially if the plate was changed recently.

  5. Vehicle is Off-Record:
If the vehicle is very old, scrapped, or deregistered, it may not be listed in the active database.

  6. DVLA Data Issues:
Motorscan relies on the DVLA and other sources for vehicle data. If the DVLA has incomplete or missing records for the vehicle, it may not appear in the report.

  7. Typographical Errors on Documents:
Sometimes, errors in the DVLA records or prior documentation may cause mismatches, making the vehicle difficult to locate.

What You Can Do:

  • Double-Check Input: Ensure you are entering the correct registration number.
  • Verify Registration Details: Check the vehicle’s V5C logbook to confirm the registration number and other relevant details are correct.
  • Recheck Later: If the vehicle has undergone recent changes, try searching again after a few days.
